Homework
Homework Overview
At GJA, we believe that properly designed homework can play a valuable part in a child’s education. The aim of these homework timetables below is to ensure consistency of approach across the school and to outline the purpose, types and amount of homework set. We give careful consideration to making homework suitable and well-balanced across the school. We recognise that the needs of the individual pupil should be taken into account when setting homework.
Homework is learning that will help with school work. It is work which pupils are asked to complete outside of school time, and it can be done independently or with the support of parents.
The Purpose of Homework:
- It helps the school develop an effective partnership between parents/carers and school.
- It consolidates and reinforces skills and understanding, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
- It extends school learning.
- It is a way of using resources for learning, of all kinds, at home.
- It encourages the development of confidence, self-discipline and the organisational skills pupils need to study on their own, and prepares them for the requirements of secondary school.
Please note that some children with additional needs may be provided with a personalised homework timetable with tailored work that they can access.
Feedback and Marking of Homework
Teachers are responsible for monitoring homework and ensuring feedback and marking is provided. Some homework will be marked in class so that pupils receive instant, verbal feedback and misconceptions can be modelled and some other homework that has been set on online learning platforms will provide pupils with instant marking and results once it has been submitted.
Parental Support
The role of parents is to support the school by valuing homework and reinforcing to pupils that homework is to help their learning. Parents should ensure homework is completed consistently and that the reading record is signed once a week. Parents should provide a quiet place for pupils to work independently, and they should help when needed. Parents should encourage pupils and praise them when they have completed their homework.
Sometimes, homework may be set on Google Classroom. Please see the documents below to support you and your child with this.
