Pupil Well-being

PSHE Jigsaw
Godolphin have adopted Jigsaw PSHE. This is a mindful approach to the subject. It allows children to become aware of their thoughts and feelings as they happen, in the present moment, with no judgements.

Mindfulness techniques are taught and is a vital tool for life. It supports the regulation of emotions and builds emotional resilience, while enhancing concentration and focus which ultimately optimises learning.

Mindful children can more readily choose their responses to situations, rather than react while caught in the thought-flows and emotions.
In our weekly one hour lesson, we develop mindfulness through ‘Calm Me’ time. This consists of breathing techniques, awareness exercises, visualisations and many more activities. These are renowned techniques and are also enjoyable for children and teachers.

Jigsaw brings together PSHE Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development in a comprehensive scheme of learning. Teaching strategies are varied and are mindful of preferred learning styles and the need for differentiation.

Jigsaw is designed as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on the same theme at the same time. Each theme starts with an introductory assembly, generating a whole school focus.

Our themes throughout the year are:

Autumn 1: Being Me in My World
Autumn 2: Celebrating Difference (including anti-bullying)
Spring 1: Dreams and Goals
Spring 2: Healthy Me
Summer 1: Relationships
Summer 2: Changing Me (including Sex Education)
